Cat Boarding Near Rochester: Why Cats Need Their Own Space at a Kennel

Cats are not small dogs. Anyone who shares a home with a cat already knows this. Cats like quiet, they like predictability, and most of them would rather not hear barking from the next room. So when it is time to find cat boarding in the Rochester area, the setup matters just as much as the people.
At Evergreen Kennels, we built our cat care around one simple idea: cats deserve their own space, away from the dogs. Here is why that matters and what it looks like for your cat.
Why Separation from Dogs Makes Such a Difference
A cat's comfort depends heavily on what it can hear, see, and smell. Even a cat who lives peacefully with the family dog at home can feel uneasy in a strange building full of unfamiliar dogs. Constant barking and the scent of many dogs can keep a cat on high alert, and a stressed cat may hide, stop eating, or groom excessively.
That is why our cats stay in a private cat room that is completely separate from the dog areas. It gives cats a calmer environment where they can rest, eat, and adjust at their own pace.
What Your Cat's Room Looks Like
You can see our setup on our cat room page. Here are the highlights:
- Spacious kitty condos. Each cat has room to stretch out, nap, and move around comfortably.
- A quieter atmosphere. No dogs share the space, so the sounds are softer and the mood is calmer.
- A little entertainment. There is a TV in the cat room, and Animal Planet is usually playing. Some cats ignore it completely. Others seem to enjoy the birds.
- Climate control. Our buildings are heated and air conditioned, so your cat stays comfortable whether it is a humid summer day or a cold Western New York night.
Cats from the Same Home Can Often Stay Together
If you have two or more cats who are bonded, keeping them together can make a big difference. A familiar companion is often the most comforting thing a cat can have in an unfamiliar place. Cats from the same household can often stay together, so just let us know when you book and we will talk through what works best for your cats.
Convenient for Rochester Cat Owners
We offer cat boarding at both of our locations. Our Churchville kennel at 1500 Kendall Rd is minutes from I-490 and the Thruway and about 15 minutes from downtown Rochester, which makes it an easy stop for cat owners in Chili, Gates, Ogden, Spencerport, Riga, and Bergen.
If you are traveling west, our Batavia location at 8870 Wortendyke Road is just off I-90 and roughly 40 minutes from Rochester and 35 minutes from Buffalo. Either way, your cat gets the same private, dog-free room.
Cared for by People Who Love Animals
Evergreen Kennels is family owned and operated by Bobby and Dawn Vetere, and we have been caring for pets in Western New York for more than 35 years. Our staff are genuine animal lovers, and that includes the cat people among us. We know that some cats warm up in an hour and others need a day or two before they come out of their shell, and we give them that time.
What Your Cat Needs to Board
To keep every guest healthy, cats need to be current on Rabies and Distemper. Please email vaccine records before your cat arrives to evergreenkennelsboarding@gmail.com so check-in goes smoothly.
A few other helpful notes:
- Bring enough of your cat's regular food for the full stay, in a plastic container labeled with your cat's name. If we provide food, it is $2.50 per day.
- Machine washable bedding is welcome and can help your cat feel at home. Leave favorite toys at home so nothing precious gets lost.
- We can give oral medications for non-contagious conditions if they are pre-loaded in a pill box labeled by day and AM/PM. We do not give injectable medications, including insulin, and we do not force pills.
You will find more answers on our FAQ page, and current rates on our pricing page.
